The Mt. Shasta Rotary Club is preparing to host the 28th annual Blackberry Music Festival on Sunday, August 31. The festival and community picnic will be held at the Mt. Shasta City Park from noon to 6:00 p.m.

No admission fee will be charged thanks to Scott Valley Bank, which is again sponsoring the event as part of its “Summer Concerts in the Parks” series.

This year’s festival will offer another exciting afternoon of music and family fun. Three local bands will play music in a variety of creative styles. At noon, Leslie Tift and Tom Scott will open the festival with Americana favorites, folk and original acoustic ballads. At 2:00, the Scott Durbin Band will take the stage with smooth classic and Latin jazz, blues and more. The closing band at 4:00 will be the Sundown Poachers with their unique brew of homegrown, foot stompin’ folk-rock.

Families are encouraged to spend the afternoon at the park. A variety of games and races will be organized for children throughout the day. A barbecue lunch, beer and other beverages, and special event t-shirts will be sold by the Rotary Club. An iconic dessert for the festival will again be blackberry pie, baked exclusively at the park lodge the day before by Rotarian volunteers. Pie can be purchased whole or by the slice, with or without ice cream.

The barbecue and sale of items supports the Rotary Club’s many community service projects. Projects include assistance to the Shasta Disabled Sports program, senior nutrition, Save the Rain water projects in Africa, local pedestrian and bike trails, dictionaries for local third grade students, and other services.

The Blackberry Music Festival has become a Labor Day Weekend tradition in Mt. Shasta. The event draws local families and friends together with area visitors to celebrate the end of summer with a Sunday afternoon of music and picnic fun.

                                                 2014 Castle Crags Century       
                             
The Mount Shasta Rotary in partnership with Mercy Mount Shasta will host a century ride in the Mount Shasta and Castle Crag area.  

The ride begins at Mount Shasta City Parks and winds it way around Lake Siskiyou, then  a challenging climb up a scenic windy mountain pass to Mumbo Summit then down Castle Crags State Park. The ride continues on from Castella through Dunsmuir and back to the Mount Shasta City Park. After lunch the ride goes north through the Shasta Valley, then back to the Bel Aire Park in Weed, next to the College of the Siskiyous with a return to Mount Shasta for after ride food and refreshments.  

We will be offering 4 ride options. A  96 mile century, a 61.4 mile metric century, a 35 mile family ride and a 10 mile "gone fishin" ride.
