Shasta Rotary Club is preparing to host the 26th annual Blackberry Music Festival on Sunday, September 2nd, with another exciting program of music and family fun. The festival will be held at the Mt. Shasta City Park from noon to 6:00 p.m. There will be no admission fee for this event thanks to Scott Valley Bank, which is once again cosponsoring the festival as part of its “Summer Concerts in the Parks” series. Three bands will present an excellent variety of music throughout the afternoon. Families are encouraged to spend an afternoon in the park. A variety of games and races will be organized for children throughout the day. A barbecue lunch, beverages, and unique event t-shirts will be offered by the Rotary Club. A favorite dessert is always the blackberry pies, baked exclusively for the festival the day before by Rotarian volunteers. Pies can be purchased whole or by the slice, with or without ice cream. The barbecue and sale of items by the Rotary Club supports the club’s many community service projects such as assistance to the Shasta Disabled Sports program, Senior Nutrition, the Mt. Shasta Library, dictionaries for local third grade students, community trails, and other projects. The Blackberry Music Festival has become a Labor Day Weekend tradition in Mt. Shasta. The festival draws local families and friends together with area visitors to celebrate the end of summer with a Sunday afternoon of music and picnic fun.
